60th AUSTRALIAN VEE JAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 1999-2000
NOTICE OF RACE

The Vee Jay Amateur Sailing Association Inc. (VJASA Inc.) and Georges River 16ft Sailing Club invites entries for the 60th AUSTRALIAN VEE JAY CHAMPIONSHIPS to be sailed under the authority of the Yachting Association of NSW.

1. Rules
The championships will be governed by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions and special regulations of the AYF, the class rules and by laws of the VJASA Inc. (except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions) and by this Notice of Race and by the Sailing Instructions. The championships are classified as a Category A event in accordance with Appendix G. A yacht shall comply with the safety equipment of AYF Addendum A Part 2.

Attention is drawn to Fundamental Rule 4 which states, a boat is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing.

2. Eligibility And Entry
All yachts entered must be affiliated with the VJASA Inc. and possess a current certificate of registration. All competitors, both skippers and forward hands, must be financial members of an affiliated club and the VJASA Inc.

Entrants shall enter on the attached Entry Form which shall be lodged with;

accompanied by the required fee of fifty dollars ($50) and in the hands of the organising committee no later than the 3rd December, 1999. Cheques shall be made payable to; VJ Section, Georges River 16ft Sailing Club Co-op Ltd. The attached Parent?s Consent Form shall be completed and signed by the parent or guardian of all entrants under the age of eighteen years as at 31st, October, 1999. Late entries will be accepted up until 1 pm on the 27th December, 1999 and an additional late entry of $10 may apply.

4. Divisions and Class Flags
  The championships will be sailed in two divisions;
  Junior - under eighteen years of age at 31/10/99 (both skipper and forward hand)
  Senior - Over eighteen years of age at 31/10/99 (either skipper or forward hand)
The senior division class flag shall be an orange flag with the black letters ?VJ?. The junior division class flag shall be code flag ?J?.

 5. Measurements
The hull and equipment of all yachts shall comply with the measurement form of the VJASA Inc. and AYF special regulations, Addendum A, Part 2. Branch stamps or measurers signature will be accepted as proof of sail measurements, however the organisers reserve the right to remeasure any sails or make spot checks on equipment during the series.

The first five boats in each division of each heat must report to a designated area, at the completion of the heat, to be checked. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

All boats may be weighted prior to the commencement of the series. Weighting will take place in the boatshed of Georges River 16ft Sailing Club from 10 am on the 27th December, 1999.

6. Sailing Instructions
Sailing instructions will be available from 10 am on the 27th December, 1999, from Georges River 16ft Sailing Club.

7. Courses
Club courses will be sailed for each heat. Course maps will be available from 10 am on the 27th December, 1999, from Georges River 16ft Sailing Club.

8. Scoring
 The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A of the rules will apply, except that there shall be five heats of which the best four heats shall count for a yachts total points. When it is possible to complete only four heats, the best three heats shall count for a yachts total points. When it is possible to complete only three heats, all heats will be counted.

 If less than three heats are sailed in a division, the series will be abandoned for that division and no champion will be declared.

9. Senior Division Identification
 All entries in the senior division shall display a black bar, at least 200 mm long, on the mainsail, under the class insignia.

10. Prizes
 Prizes will be awarded to both the skipper and forward hand of the yachts placed first, second and third overall in each division. Further prizes will be given out at the discretion of the Organising Committee. Presentation of prizes will take place in the auditorium of Georges River 16ft Sailing Club, as soon as possible after the conclusion of the final heat.

11. Liability
 All those taking part in these championships, do so at their own risk and responsibility. The VJASA Inc., Georges River 16ft Sailing Club, Race Officials, Sponsors and the Yachting Association of NSW, do not accept liability for personal or material damage, injury or death, sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after the championship.

The organisers reserve the right to reject or rescind an entry before the start of the series, subject to RRS 76.
